    Quick question…

I have some shots that needed color correction. I did that and added the CC to the shots in their bin. But, when I edit them into the program, they need to be rendered? Did I jack with a setting? I thought CC was real-time?

Shots are DVCProHD 720p/60 into a native 720p/60 timeline.

CC clip can play back in realtime if your system is fast enough, but they always have to be rendered before output. Realtime should be set to Unlimited and you should have very fast drives.

On our systems we can apply up to 4 levels of the 3Way CC to most any timeline in realtime, though most of our CC is done in Color these days.

My system’s plenty fast enough and they playback fine, but they are extremely digital looking (un-rendered) It seems like I remember, they didn’t have this bad a digital look to them when the the CC filter was added. It could just be me I guess.

Your system is dropping the quality on the clips so they can play in realtime. Once they are rendered they will look like full quality. Our systems maintain full quality for at least two copies of the filter and then they will drop down to maintain realtime playback.

OK, this is weird. I just opened up another project (720p/30 footage in a 720p/60 timeline) and the video doesn’t get digital when a CC filter is applied. Just the 720p/60 footage in the 720p/60 timeline. Is it that it’s 60 fps footage requires more machine to playback cleanly?

And yes, after rendering, it all looks fine.

    it’s a higher data rate.

I had a similar situation (video looked fine though) where having the
realtime cc filter (1 instance) worked in real time as usual
with no green line and for some reason, just one of the clips (they were all the same, from the same tape) for no apparent reason at all required rendering. There was absolutely no other effects
on it. I could remove it completely and re-add it and fcp insisted it needed a render if I added the cc filter. and every single one had 1 cc filter added.

Rendered it looked perfectly fine but it was puzzling.
