We shot a feature on DVC Pro HD 720 24p and edited on Final Cut 5.1.4 using a 59.94 timeline. Now that we’re in the final stages, we’d like to make a standard def DVD using Compressor and finishing in DVD Studio Pro. Our aspect ratio is 16:9 letter box, and in our current output settings our field dominance is top first and we’re doing two pass vbr best.

The problem we keep getting in tests thus far is the film comes out distorted–i.e. jittery throughout the picture, especially during movement shots–unless we render in drop frame. Is there any settings advice anyone could offer? We’re just looking for a way to bypass having to render in DF since it takes ages.

    Thanks,

    William Taylor

WHy are you using top first? Why not keep it progressive or no fields? That will yield the best results and cleanest image.

That’s right. The DVD player will add pull down for interlaced viewing.

Thanks, I’ll do some tests today and see if that’s the issue.
