Quicktimes problems with AE7 Pro and CS3 with Windows Vista
Hello,
When I use any quicktime based files such as photo jpeg mov files. I open these into my After Effects project I’m running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
When I scrub my timeline or do a ram preview the computer monitor and output monitor gets flash frames with in my composition window if there is a qucktime source, and image break up like data corruptions.
This is only happneing on Vista on XP it was fine. I also installed After Effects CS3 to see if this cured the problem but it is still here.
Here is a link to the image so you are aware of the mage problems. Hope someone has some work arounds or ideas on how I can fix this. Be interesting to know if anyone has had the same problems?

Yes, known issues.
Quicktime on Vista is a bit of an experimental journey at this time (as suggested by Apple in Quicktime’s web page).
However, it is possible that some issues could be worked out in the Public Preview 2 build. Did you try that already? If you didn’t, please update and let me know how it goes.Before updating, please Deactivate (Help > Deactivate) Public Preview 1, uninstall it (by using the Progams control panel on Vista) and only then install Public Preview 2 (found on Adobe Labs, as usual).

Hello,
When you say “Public Preview 2 build” do you mean for Quicktime or After Effecst cs3 professional? I can’t seem to see Quicktime for Viata only Quicktime 7 http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

I mean the new build of AE CS 3 Public Preview that was posted last week. It’s available on Adobe Labs.

Hello,
Yes I downloaded about 1 day ago the Adobe After Effects CS3 demo. I am still having the same problem it only seems to be with Quicktime files I am using I had the same issue with After Effects 7 pro on Vista so I tried the CS3 demo 1 day ago to see if it would fix the bug.
Have you had a similar problem?

I have a similar problem, after importing Quicktime files, After Effects will freeze and shut down if I try and actually see the clip. Occasionally when I was trying to get it to work, I’d get the blue screen of death and my computer would restart.
I figure the problem is probably coming from Quicktime being somewhat invasive as far as video codecs go, Vista prevents so many things from being changed that there’s probably a conflict between the two somewhere. Of course I could be way off base here.
Anyway, I’ve tried Apple’s Quicktime codec, and Quicktime Alternative, same problem. Tried using After Effects 7.0 and CS3 preview 1. I’m not sure if this is a problem Adobe can fix, I think it’ll probably get fixed once a proper Vista compatible version of Quicktime is released, but personally I’d rather not wait; if someone has a work around to this problem, please post it.
