The file is not a movie file – error
An edit with Apple Pro Res 422 files was going fine until we started having (LACIE) drive problems and transferred all media to a new drive. As it turns out some clips were not good even before we transferred. In the FCP viewer, these clips show up as a white screen and will not play at all. When the QT files are opened from the drive, we get the error message — ‘The Movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file.’
Unfortunately, these files were erased from the memory cards before being backed up to a second drive.
We have tried VLC and MPEG Streamclip to open these files, but no luck.
Does anyone have suggestions about these problem files?

All of the clips are ProRes quicktime movies but some
of them are showing as white?go into the clip properties (open them individually in quicktime)
and enable (check) the video box. It might be unchecked. -

Not that it will help you now, but in the future, you should have a good backup strategy in place when using tapeless camera systems. You really need to have multiple backup copies of the original card dumps, including their original directory structure. Keep each backup set in a different place.
That helps to protect you against data loss, but it also insures that you’ll be able to use the footage on systems other than FCP.
