The answer is in the title, I know, but I’m wondering about the best way to create this in AE if I had to.

I need to create photographs in space that are connected with multiple growing 3d lines, showing the connections between them. Sort of like a family tree. I can do this easily in C4D, but I’m trying to see if I can get it done in AE, due to the revisions, passing it on to another artist, etc.

The problem is, 3D stroke is great, but I have a lot of trouble getting it to jive with the comp camera, esp when travelling through z, AND connecting smoothly from plane to plane.

    Any ideas, tips?

    Thx in adv.

dan ebbert created an expression that may work for a plugin like beam, which could allow you to connect two photos with a line in 3d space.

his expression was used to create 3d corner pinning, allowing the corners of the 2d plugin to move in 3d space… in the case of beam it would only be the 2 points linke to 3d layers (like the anchorpoints of your photos perhaps).

anyway, here the link his page at motionscript.com if you want to check it out.
