I’m looking to purchase a new mac system with Final cut studio and the whole adobe suite. I’ll be using after effects, final cut, color, and photoshop extensively. What are the best specifications of a system to get for around $6,000? I’m configuring the system from apple.com and just trying to figure what I need and don’t need for HDV editing in these applications. I do most my work on external drives, so storage is not an issue, but seeing what the best graphics card, memory, and ram to get. Thanks for any help

We see this post about two times a week these days.
Scroll down and you’ll find several threads.
Card of choice for Motion seems to be ATI’s 3870, or is 3780? OpenGL is meaningless so doin’t fallfor that pitch for After Effects.
Know that in FCP you cannot have more than two monitors hooked up (and only to one dual-head card) or a bunch of FxPlugs will fail so don’t go nuts on cards till Apple get this fixed.

It’s your money, not mine. My advice is to buy equities, not a new Macintosh. Buy a used Intel. Tons of them on the market.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
