  • Controls tab for Text crashes FCP

    Hey everyone,

If I create a new text element in Final Cut Pro and then click on the Controls tab, Final Cut Pro crashes. In searching the only thing I could find was to open up Font Book and resolve any duplicates. I tried this but FCP still crashes. Anyone else seen this/have any idea on what might be doing it?

    Mac Pro, OS X 10.5.3, FCP 6.0.3, QT 7.4.5.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Use Live Type for your text.
To solve your crash problem, repair your permissions.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick respone. I tried repairing permissions but it doesn’t seem to have fixed the crash problem. We use livetype for some of our facier text, but for quick slates, ect the built in text feature works just fine.

Use the Boris 3D Title instead.

It should be one of your built-in choices.

That’s what I have been using for my own titles, but unfortunately I’m an AE for about 35 editors who use a combo of the two, so I need to figure out why machine is crashing to work on their projects.

Was there ever a solution? Was it permissions or no?

I am suffering from the same issue and feel the same way about wanting quick and easy type(not livetype).

Unfortunately repairing permissions did not fix the problem and I’m still looking for a solution.

hi… in font book i deactivated all fonts with the exception of the apple system fonts. you can find a list of the system fonts on the web somewhere i am sure.

then, using FontAgent Pro application i imported all of my fonts. Created two libraries. a system fonts library and then the rest of my fonts. Autoactivation was turned on, so if i open an application requiring a font that i do not have activated, it will activate that font. But for the sake of eliminating variables, all fonts were deactivated except system fonts.

from there i used Smasher application and “smashed” all font caches.

then i restarted and the issue was resolved. also, i did not have any other users on my system. might help to delete other users before doing this or maybe do the same process for the other user accounts first, then do the master admin and restart and log in to the master.

    good luck
