MP4 footage and Final Cut 6
Hi I was wondering if anyone could be of help, I’ve recently started using a hd excam ex1 camera and Im trying to import some some footage (mp4 codec) into Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 from a sxs drive.
I’ve dropped the clips onto my hard drive, set up a FCP project to xcam ex in easy set up but everytime i try to import the clips FC says that the file type is unsupported.
I’ve also imported the clips to my hard drive via the ex1 browser program, where in the info window for each clip it confusingly claims that they are mpeg2 codec.
Everything I’ve read over the last few days gives the impression that the transfer of excam ex1 footage is pretty straight forward, so im at a loss to say where im going wrong.
Any tips much appreciated.

Michael, thanks for your input…it was the sony xdcam transfer software for fcp that was missing…why its not shipped with the camera is a mystery. But anyway with that installed its gone from being incredibly frustrating to child play. many thanks.

Because you can get the most up to date software off a website. Same with AJA and all their products. You download their drivers and software off the website which can be updated on a daily basis if needed whereas discs printed for a product are often months out of date.
