  Double render – not sure why

  Ok – here’s the issue. I have a l hour and 43 minute sequence. The sequence settings are NTSC 10 bit uncompressed, which matches the source video settings. The easy setup, and the Kona card itself, are all set with these identical settings. The video does have some plugins and letterboxing on it. I option + r rendered everything in the sequence, which took about 8 hours. The whole sequence has the blue render bar over it. I have now begun the process of exporting a final cut movie using current settings. I have the “make movie self contained” option selected. I got a popup saying “writing audio and video: 56 minutes.” I have had this happen to me before, but I don’t get it. Shouldn’t the sequence have fully rendered and gone right into the export? Also, when this has happened to me before, this seems to be a phantom render. meaning that it doesn’t save and when i need to export again I’ll be looking at the same 56 minute render. Does anyone have any ideas?

  Is “Full” checked in the Sequence — Render All dropdown menu?

  Does it actually take an hour or does it finish more quickly? Sometimes that estimate is off by a lot.

  You might just be looking at the time required to retrieve, stitch, and copy all of your media files to your target drive. this process is making a single, coherent, continuous file form hundreds of separate pieces and media that is scattered all over your drives.

  OK – I was offline for multiple days but I’m back, if anyone’s still reading this. Full is not checked. Should it be? Does not being rendered at full mean that the render will work for playback, but not for layoffs or making self contained movies? Thanks to both of you guys for responding.
