  • I lost frame by frame audio in the timeline…

Posted by Brandan Dennehy on September 18, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Well we shot a music video last week and due to communication error between myself and the camera assistant we did not capture live audio. This is not the end of the world since we started nearly every take at the beginning of the song. However it means I now have to scour every shot and write down (as closely as possible) just where in the song each shot goes by time-code. So I am viewing all the clips we shot and in order to provide my editor with the best possible notes I am trying to do an “approximate sync” of the audio and video in the timeline so I can tell him not just which clips/takes to use but where in the song they will be. It was going alright until I suddenly lost the ability to scan through the song frame by frame and still hear it. If play it I can hear it just fine. If I scan frame by frame there is no audio at all. What did I do and how do I reverse it????

Press SHIFT-S to enable AUDIO SCRUBBING. Also in the VIEW MENU.

This is great. More than a year after your reply, you helped someone else thousands of miles away with your simple solution. Many thanks from Norway.

me, too! now, if i could just figure out a way to scrub audio while trimming, i might actually learn to like editing on fcp.

Having the same problem. Tried several things but most audio settings are appearing grey and so, not adjustable. I must have another setting that is not set how it should be.

after more than 3minutes editing with sound, how it should, all the following clips that I’m dragging into the timeline are without sound. When I check them in the library they are playing as they should.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance!
