    Hi,

    First of all, system:

FCP Studio 2, 8core processer, 9gb RAM, FW 800 GRAID storage, AJA IO capture box, Sony HDV deck (HVR-1500), Blackmagic videohub

This is one of my first times posting but I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer. I have used this forum MANY times without posting as there is already so much info here.

I have cut a promo which was shot in HDV, but for SD delivery. I have been cutting in DV at which point I was going to hand over the project for someone else to grade.

The client has now decided they want a HD delivery !!

I will try to recapture the footage back in as Prores. However, the promo contains some very fast cuts in the DV footage, some shots are only 2 or 3 frames long.

    My question is:

If I media manage the project into an offline version, can these short clips be recaptured?

Can FCP capture this short amount of time through a sony HVR 1500 which is connected by SDI into the AJA IO with deck control?

Does FCP have a minimum capture amount with DV tapes?

I read the manual and searched but I cant find out. I would just try it but I cant get back into the suite to run tests until I am back in to do the work.

Many thanks for your help and time with my question

    -Anthony

Media Manage and then add a 1 second handle to everything you capture. Yes, FCP can capture very short shots, but it’s easier all the way around if you add some handles.

If the original timecode was correctly captured when you went in DV then you should have no problems recapturing from the HDV, particularly if you use 9 pin & HD SDI.

I recaptured a documentary with over 1100 cuts including a sequence of single frame shots (about 140 events) with only one error which turned out to be a mistake by the editor on the original ingest ignoring a genuine timecode break.
