  Backward compatibility

  I have access to an older Mac (not sure about the OS quite yet…maybe OS9) that I’m considering using to do some basic FCP editing from home. At the office, I’m using FCP6 with all the trimmings. I know I’d need to get my hands on an older version of FCP that my older Mac would support, but will I be able to take all of my work from home into the office and import it into an FCP6 session for finalizing? I guess I’m just trying to ascertain whether (for example) FCP4 jobs can be imported into 6.

  (Sorry if this is in a FAQ somewhere)

  Forward…yes. FCP will just update the file. Backwards…from 6 to 4, you need to export an XML.

  FCP4 supports XML version 1 only
  FCP5 supports XML versions 1 and 2
  FCP5.1 supports XML versions 1, 2 and 3
  FCP6 supports XML versions 1, 2, 3 and 4
