Single Filter Render Taking Forever
I have a single timeline project (3 hours total) with one chroma filter applied over the whole project. I’m exporting it to the best DVD setting via Compressor and FCP is only rendering about 8500 frames per hour. Does that sound right?
I understand it’s a huge project at 3 hours but exporting a single timeline to .m2v for DVD shouldn’t be that complicated….or is it the Nattress Chroma Filter that’s probably adding to the render time? Also FCP/Compressor don’t seem to be taking advantage of all 8 of my processors (Mac Pro).

yes compressing to mpeg2 is pretty complicated due to the GOP nature of that format. It is extremely processor intensive. Furthermore sending to Compressor from FCP via the Export Using Compressor function causes Compressor to run more slowly as it has to wait for FCP to feed it the data piece by piece … and it also ties up FCP throughout the processor meaning you can’t get on with more work. very inefficient.

you need to set up a virtual cluster that will enable Comprsssor to make full use of all 8 cores .. a quick google should find the step by step guide

OK, here goes…..
I’m currently having FCP export via Quicktime > Quicktime Movie w/ Current Settings and Make Self Contained method.
I’ve set up Qmaster to “Share this computer as Quick Cluster with services” with Options set at 1 instance for each of 2 processors.
I should be able to use the .mov exported from FCP and Compressor should cluster just fine….however the FCP export is still going to take while by itself.
