  • G-RAID Drives Used Independently?

I’m looking to pick myself up a G-RAID but I have a question first. At school, I need to have two external drives (one to used on our Mac systems and one to use on our Windows systems) so instead of two independent drives, I was thinking of picking up a G-RAID and using the two drives independently. Is this possible? Would there be any issues with doing it this way? I’m also thinking the added benefit is that in the end, I’ll end up with a nice RAID for my home system when the course is over.
    Any thoughts?

Nope…sorry. A G-Raid is hard wired as a Raid 0 and cannot be altered.

However, the Firewire VR from Caldigit can be two separate drives…and they are removable too.

Thanks Shane, I was afraid of that. It looks like I’ll get a Lacie 2Big solution then. Will there be an issue in general with formatting one for Mac and one for PC, or will each of the other drives just not show up on each other’s system?

They will both show up you just wont be able to fully use the drive.

Oh excellent, that’s what I was hoping. So I’ll format the drives independently and once the program is over, RAID them up for home use.
    Thanks Zane.
