    Dear FCP Cows

I have posted this query on 2 other COW forums because I’l like to hear the thoughts and/or view of an editor a cinematographer and an HDV specialist

I’ll have to shoot (HDV 50i 25 fps PAL) a fashion show (most will be close to subjects), with a minimum outdoor action most if it will be indoors. Because I have to try to get the most of it I’ll have to run from right to left following the VIP’s entry, to the catwalks, change rooms etc etc. As you can imagine the lighting will be the common denominator probably from bad to very bad. I know that I don’t have the best camera to work in poor lighting conditions…… so the smartest thing to do would be… please don’t say to let someone else do the job, because I’m trying to get in the backdoor of the pro world … ha ha ha!

My question is pretty simple, to get the most out of my Z1 and the situation should I ?
    option-1
Z1 on Auto and worry only about the shooting
    option-2
Z1 on manual setting with the risk of missing something
The end product will be SD DVD and maybe part will be released on the web ( I have a copy of Internet Killed The Video Star to make sure I’ll do things right from the start and also most of the COW master series to help me in the darkest moments of anger! ha ha ha)

Any thoughts in regard will be very much appreciated. FEEL FREE TO SHOOT TO KILL.. ha ha ha I’m not a guy that gets offended and accepts suggestions/help/criticism

    Ciao

    Hi Antonio,
Long time don’t see you around.
From my limited experience I think that in a situation where you can not set properly your camera in manual, is better let it in Auto.
With a shoulder camera you can adjust focus and exposure really fast, but cameras of the format of the Z1 is a real pain.
So in a situation where you have to be ready to record what ever it happens, I would make a White Balance and the rest in Auto.

    Hi Rafael!

I’m always around, almost every day from home or work I’ll make sure to log in and read a couple of posts sometimes few hours at the time even if I’m not experiencing that particular situation. See Rafael for me the COW it’s not only somewhere I can get help but its a fantastic place to study and learn from real pros. So unless I can say something that makes sense I usually shut up and pay attention to my surroundings… (I’d pay a membership for the cow, that how much I apreciate everybody’s time and effort around here)

    Enough of this mumbo jumbo..
I have to start with a thank you for offering your toughts Rafael. My plan at this stage is as follows:
A- Z1 exposure in auto and myself on zoom and focus
Besides the catwalk most of the shots will be hand free and as you know the Z1 has a couple of options sor stady cam, very usefull indeed.
    B- Z1 FULL AUTO
C- No cam at all and myself enjoying the evening with some friends having a couple of drinks…. temptations temptations !!! ha ha ha this time I may enjoying the Z1

    Hi Rafael!
I just had a meeting with the official photographer of the event and he mentioned the light as an issue on the all evening. We may not have the minumum ideal 5600 kelvin ideal to show true or acceptable colors. Where do I stand with the Z1 with at least 50 fps?
