backing up those scratch disks
This seems like it would be a simple question but everyone I ask doesn’t know the answer:
I get how to back up a FCP file…just save one on ur Hard drive and one on your external drive, easy. But…let’s say your computer totally crashes, or your external hard drive (where the capture files are). No problem though right? Cause you backed up your final cut pro project file.
Problem…big problem…without the capture scratch your project file/timeline is basically useless right? Because all that tedious work you did on your timeline…no longer has any juice essentially (or capture scratches to pull video/audio from).
And you cant just re capture the files, because when they are imported into the computer they are named different things, and sometimes stop at differences places I believe.So here’s my question…is there anyway to backup my film…foolproof? So if my external drive did happen to crash (along with all my capture files), there would be a way to just start re importing the tapes off my camera and it would go right back into the timeline?

If you logged and captured you can.
Many editors use the same basic idea at the end of a project, save your project file and any graphic files to a CD/DVD and then delete the media and project file from the machine. If the client comes back months later you load back up the project and just recapture.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
