    Hey guys,

I’m looking at getting a new external drive.
Main purpose: editing video, using the drive for all purposes relating to the editing in FCP (all files will be on the drive).

    I use a new iMAC, 3.06 ghz.

Speed and reliability are pretty much all I care about, I’ll get a big one so space is not an issue.

What have you guys found to work best:

Also, is the new FireWire 1600 and 3200 supposedly coming out soon? I think it connects using a normal 800 cable, so does that mean a new 3200 would transfer at max rate w/ my FW800 port on my iMAC? or would it be limited to the 800 speed?

    Cheers

Pretty much any FW 800 drive will do.

NOPE you will NOT get the faster speed on your computer, it is limited by the FireWire bus on the computer, and there is no way to upgrade your computer.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
