  • Media offline clips on timeline

    Hi,

While working on a FCP project, I accidentally unplugged my external hard drive where all the media for the project is stored. After rebooting the machine, some of the clips on the timeline have the text “Media Offline”. However, the clips still play normally and can be worked on, and the clips in the bins don’t seem to be offline. How do I get the clips in the sequence not appear as if they would be offline, since they are not?

    Trash your thumbnail cache files.

    All the best,

I have the same situation. Trashed the thumbnail caches, clips are still online.

You have to find where you set the thumbnail cache. To find is final cut pro pull down menu then system settings or shift Q. On Scratch disk tab, you’ll see where the thumbnail cache set to. Just follow the file path. Quit your final cut pro first, before you trash the thumbnail cache folder.
