Inject / Replace timecode on already captured clips
I have been handed a low budget feature that I have been asked to finish and grade. The low-res edit has been created with clips that have been captured without time-code. Fortunately there is timecode in vision throughout the rushes and the reel numbers are quite obvious.
Given that I have timecode in vision for the first frame of every reel and there are no timecode breaks on any the tapes. Is it possible to replace the starting timecode in each quicktime movie for each reel so that I will be able to auto-conform?
If not in Final Cut – what about exporting the XML and doing it by hand? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could try using the auxiliary timecode feature. It’s labor intensive but might be easier than starting completely from scratch but I doubt it. Try a few experiments after reading the short entries in the manual. If you know XML (and I don’t) there’s supposed to be a way to replace the t/c columns with aux.t/c.
However, I’m not following your “low budget” reference at all. If they have little money, you will need to decide quickly if hand-entering t/c data is less expensive than recapturing with timecode and rebuilding the film. I’m guessing the latter is going to end up being easier/faster.

Thanks for your reply – I was afraid of having to do this however I found an app called Sebsky Tools that allows you to add/modify the timecode track. Seems to be working fine. I have now been able to media manage the project and am going to start batch capture later today. Thanks again
