too many effects?
hello everybody
I am color correcting a short film using FCP, I must say that the FCP color correction is amazing. the movie was poorly shot, sometimes there was a gradient effect was used sometimes not, and same scene shots were shot on different days, so basically what I’m using is
color correction 3 way
broadcast safe effect
mask feather and mask shape to get the gradient effect (especially in landscape shots)
oh and on top of all that, whenever I have someone speaking and the sky is bright behind him but his face is dark I use another mask feather and mask shape to work on his face only
but I noticed that I have digital noise in the picture and some red thin lines in the face area and I was wondering if that is because I used too much effects?
how do I fix that? (other than re-shoot the whole thing that is impossible)I would truly appreciate any help

Hi,
Can you post an image of what you’re talking about? It is probably just camera noise in your original image that’s becoming more apparent as you adjust brightness/color/etc. If there’s a specific hue that’s giving you trouble (e.g., red or blue), you could use ANOTHER masked color corrector dialed in to that hue to help attenuate it.
What camera did you shoot with?

no problem with the original footage but I was thinking maybe the more effects you add on your video the less the quality will become
is there anything I should change in my setting/ preferences in order to get the best colors and video quality? rendering, playback control, video processing? -
Could you post a still of what you’re talking about? And what camera are you working with?
To answer your question, no, more effects do not *necessarily* make the final image quality worse. However, If you start boosting the contrast of your image, it could reveal some of the camera noise that is in the shadows (or highlights) of your image.
Try this, though. Go to Sequence -> Settings… and click the Video Processing tab. Click “Render all YUV material in high-precision YUV.” See if that helps.
