    hi all

i am looking to purchage a io sulution for our little shop

decklink (used to work for them) hd extreme
aja (know there well know rep.) iohd
    matrox (new stuff) mxo2

other then al the obvious io possibileties
any of you guy’s know any thing ‘s i might overlook
like quality (for example iohd has proress hardware)
or downscaling in the box vs on the macpro

or like works like a charm on mac fcp

    any thing i might forget

    thanks in advance

    Cheers

    martijn

The box said ‘Requires Windows 95, or better.’ So I bought a Macintosh.

    Hi Martijn,

I would go for the AJA IO HD.
    – Aja works very close with FCP
    – Aja customer service is very good and helpful, even abroad
    – the IO HD gives you the opportunity to work with a notebook (portability)
    – If you want full HD uncompressed (4:4:4) you need a Kona3 card, because FCP6 doesn’t like firewire devices
    – IO HD is very reliable, even if you run it day and night
    – and its leopard compatible

    What computer are you running?

What version of FCP are you running?

What media arrays are you running and how are they connected to your computer?

What version of the OS are you running?

[Rainer Wirth] “- If you want full HD uncompressed (4:4:4) you need a Kona3 card, because FCP6 doesn’t like firewire devices “

FCP 6 works fine with Firewire devices. You just can’t ingest Uncompressed HD (which can be 4:2:2 or 4:4:4) via Firewire. BUT the Io HD CAN edit with Uncompressed HD if it’s already on the system.

So, say you get some HD Stuff through Hard drive in the computer you can do 4:4:4 editing with IO HD?

    hi their

    thanks for feedback
i run a macpro late 2007 (2.66) 8 gig ram for video data only internal raid 2 disks (seagate the topline don’t rember the name for that (the 24/7 ones)

    mac os 10.4.11
    fcp 6.0.4

we have a sony ex1 with hdsdi out

no unc. 422 or 444 for me:) i have had ok results with green screen and decklink hd extreme capture to proress (thats my own cart that i borrowd from my home set i dont want to remove the card form my home set anymore 🙂

we also have a macbook pro with fw800 and running leopart

i was wondering if there was room for quality diffence witin the hd sdi specs?

the mxo2 looks promising but there is no real world experience yet and i don’t feel like being guini pig 🙂

i do like the possibilety to be portabel but have no direct need for it
    cheers

I know that the blackmagic/decklink is not too bad and it’s cheaper than the AJA IO HD. You may need the portability of the Box in the future. I’ve had it and was lucky, it also worked on the laptop. It saves me 1000 bucks rental a year, because we are doing a yearly show on it.
With the Matrox I have no experience. I know, that for most resellers its better, because the margin they earn is higher. I also don’t know anybody professional using it.
Most pros use AJA or Blackmagic/Decklink.

I’ve been very happy with my AJA HD.
Remember that you have to add an additional FW bus to your computer to utilize it effectively.

I have had my audio go away for apparently no reason, but I think the last firmware upgrade fixed that.

So far very happy with my Blackmagic Multibridge Pro. Not as sexy as AJAs offering but does exactly what it says it will, excellent image quality and FCP integration. If you’re looking to save some $$$ I’d take a look at BM.

    Not 4:4:4, 4:2:2 only.
