Pixel Aspect Ratio Confusion Again
I don’t recall having this issue before, and I’m not sure whether it’s an FCP, Compressor, or DVDSP issue. Store bought DVDs display normally in the Apple DVD Player, and on a tv. My authored disk displays normally on a tv but squished in Apple DVD player. It was exported from FCP with NTSC/DV 3:2 p.a.r., 720×480. Everything displays normally in FCP with Pixel Aspect Correction off.
The exported file looks normal in Quicktime player, and in DVDSP, squished in Apple DVD player and on a video projector.
I know it’s not necessary to author a dvd for computer/projector playback, and one for TV…is it?
Circles display as ovals on the computer. But they’re circles on my TV. Seems logical. Nonsquare pixels display “correctly” on a nonsqare pixel device such as a TV. But I thought the Appple DVD Player was smart enough to know to employ pixel aspect correction to display the dvd “correctly” on a computer monitor. Is there something I’m missing at the authoring stage in DVD Studio Pro? As I’ve said, when the movie is viewed in the DVDSP viewer the circles are circles. It’s obviously employing pixel aspect correction like quicktime. Why isn’t this translating to the burned DVD playing back on the computer? -

When you exported from FCP, did you simply highlight the Sequence, then Export > Quicktime Movie > Current Settings?
If you did anything else, that can affect the output. The simplest way to get your FCP timeline correctly to Compressor is to export from the Sequence and leave everything set to Current Settings.

Thanks. That’s been my standard workflow for years. Like I said, this is a weird new mystery. In Compressor I used the Best Quality, 90 min. preset. SD DVD in DVDSP, 4:3 track.

If is looking Ok with “Pixels Aspect correction” OFF, there is something wrong.
When you set “Pixels Aspect correction” OFF, FC is displaying Square pixels in the Canvas. And if your Canvas look OK in Square pixels, you my have a wrong size in your sequence.
Can you have a look to the size in the Sequence setting?

Another thing pointing that something is wrong. Normally QT distort everything because display as Square pixels.
Which is the size that you get in the info widow of QT?

My Sequence Settings are NTSC/DV 3:2 720 x 480 Pixel Aspect Ratio CCIR 601/NTSC.
When I turn Pixel Aspect Correction on for the Canvas, everything get a little squeezed, but looks correct on my external NTSC monitor.Joey Foreman

Think I figured it out. I created my graphic incorrectly in After Effects. Thanks for the help.
