Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy speed up video

    Hello,

Are there any tips to help speed up video? I know how to do it in FCP (Apple + J), but usually I just want to speed up the video a little bit so it’s not noticeable, like right when a tennis player hits a ball or a football player throws, and it ends up looking a bit choppy.

Is there a plug-in that does something other than just cut out frames? My friend has one for After Effects that he said slows down video very good, but I don’t want to go back and forth between programs.

    Thank you

When changing the speed in FC, make sure that you have “Frame blending” activated. You can try to improve the effect checking Motion Rendering> Best.
there are some pluins like Twixtor that makes a much better job. You can also use Motion that have a very good Optic Flow.

take your footage into Motion and Under the timing parameters-choose variable & optical flow and you can keyframe the speed/slow of your video.
Optical flow does a great job, its kind of slow as it has to “compute”, but it does it in the background. Click on the spinning circle and it will show you how much time is left.
