! Operation Not Allowed ! Error: Out of Memory
Working on an SD project in Final Cut and have repeatedly received this error:
! Operation Not Allowed ! Error: Out of MemoryI’m unable to open a certain sequence (of course my Final) for playback or editing at all within a project. When I do, the Canvas becomes red with a message to close the window and restart FCP to no avail.
I’ve read previous posts with this problem, tried their advice (trashing prefs, restarting the program from the Autosave Vault,) but none of these seem to fix this issue.
Other sequences playback fine, which leads me to believe this particular sequence is corrupt. A previous poster mentioned restarting from Autosave fixed this for them, but for me no dice. It may give me a few minutes, but eventually the problem resurfaces.
Any advice? It would be much appreciated.

Anything unusual in the sequence? A photoshop file, mp3, mpeg video, h264, etc.?

Actually yes. The music is an .mp3 file and there is one graphic that is a .psd.
A second sequence that contains both of those files as well plays fine however. Is there a chance this corrupted one sequence and left another ok? Any further recommendations?

You’re not supposed to put MP3s in Final Cut. And while PSD files are supposed to work, it’s better practice to convert it to a PNG whenever possible.
First trash your render files and make sure FCP is closed. Convert your MP3s to AIFFs, convert the PSDs to PNG files. Rename or move the original media files so that they will be offline media when you open your project. Manually reconnect to the respective AIFF and PNG files and you should be okay.

Thanks for the advice. Somewhere back in the memory banks I knew this was a no-no, but never ran into any problems until now so didn’t abide. Thanks again for the help.

So I went through the process of changing the file properties and trashing the render files. Now when I open the project in Final Cut I am still receiving the error message when I try and open the sequence. So I am basically locked out of making any changes to the sequence.
I did a ‘Save As’ to the project to see if it would allow me to at least open the sequence to make the changes, but still no luck.
Any further thoughts?

Problem solved!
It came down to a mix of all three. I went into the Autosave Vault and opened up the most recent version where I could still access the problematic sequence. Once it was open I changed out the suspect files for ones more compatible, trashed render files and restarted Final Cut.
So far so good. Thanks for the help!
