PAL
I’m having trouble get an NTSC movie to convert to PAL and get burned to DVD and still look good. I’m using idvd 08′ and FCP 5. Any suggestions?

are you trying to send a NTSC movie to iDVD and get a PAL DVD from there?
Thats no the way to go.
You need to convert your NTSC QT movie to PAL QT. Then send the PAL movie to iDVD or whatever other application.
You an convert the NTSC to PAL with Compressor or MPGStreamclip. Also in FC you can do it with the Nattress Standard Conversor.

I was trying to put a NTSC QT movie in idvd to burn in PAL.
How do you make a PAL QT movie in FCP for a movie that is a hour and half long? I’m new at this so I’ll need some detailed answers.

In the end you are lucky for going from NTSC to PAL, instead of from PAL to NTSC.
From NTSC to PAL, you basically have to discharge 5 frames from every second of your picture.
When you go from PAL to NTSC, is more complicated because you need to create 5 new frames.
The best conversion probably you will get it with Compressor. But to convert 90 minutes can take few days of rendering.
The faster and easiest way in FC is to drop your NTSC clip in a PAL sequence and export. But I don’t think you will get a very good result.
There are many people using the Nattress Standard Conversion filter in FC. Much faster than Compressor and good quality.
I heard also of people using MPGStreamClip (a little free application very useful that you should have it) with good results.
You should make some tests with a short clip to see which way to go.
