We have a HVX200 and have the P2 cards working fine, but am having difficulty getting the Log and Capture working. FCP 6 sees the VTR and triggers it, but the Preview is disabled. So we can control the camera but not see or get the footage in. Any thoughts on why this is happening would be greatly appreciated. We have set the input to DVPro1080i

Use log and Transfer if you are ingesting your P2 cards.

FYI, you cannot capture/record 720/1080 via the tape deck on the HVX200. Only DV.

The HVX only records standard def DV to tape. All other formats must be recorded to P2 cards. This is in the camera manual.

You cannot capture 1080 from a mini DV deck via firewire. For that, you would have to ingest it via SDI or component into a Kona 3 card, an Io HD, or a V4HD, or a Multibridge.

Ok so the tape is designed for really DV and other sizes to the P2 cards. What is interesting is that the dubbing feature, ie dubb from P2 to tape works fine at the 720 + resolutions.

We are using the P2 as the main path way, just wanted to see if the tape had any extra advantages on top of that. What an amazing camera.

    With thanks,

The dub feature on the HVX200 will downconvert your P2 HD footage to DV onto tape.

Here is some wise advise, read the manual, read Barry Green’s HVX book and CD and watch Barry Green’s HVX Bootcamp DVD’s.
