Editor Stress/Sequence Settings
So you don’t throw bricks at me, I’ve been editing on FCP back when version 1 first came out and still use the original serial number. But, I’m in the forest and can’t see the trees with an issue that suddenly came up. I’m using 6.04, FYI, AJA/IoLA box, G5, etc. Most of my work is 30 second TV spots that go to BetaSP dubs. We shoot with a SONY DVCAM and a new JVCHD1100 (very cool camera.) Thus, in setting up the majority of our projects we capture the DV source material, but set our outputs to uncompressed 8-bit, hence the AJA box. We shot an entire week’s worth of material both on the DVCAM and the JVC (which we shot DV 60/30, and upon initial capture, everything dropped into our sequences like butter. We created 8 different sequences that eventually will all nest together for about a 30 minute project. This project, is going to DVD, not output to Beta. THINKING that I didn’t need to go to uncompressed, I changed the compression to DV/DVCPRO, field to CCIR 601 DV 40:27. In working with a final and last sequence, suddenly, I’m forced to render green bars. I can handle some of this simply by checking each sequence’s settings, but I’m losing some quality somewhere. Okay, to make this story more interesting and here’s where I need some wisdom, I’m installing a new AJA/KONALHx card to take advantage of what the JVC camera is capable of doing. I want to optimize my sequences, but don’t want to spend my lunch and dinner time in rendering. Yes, I’ll still output for awhile to Beta until the TV stations will take our uploads in HD, but I forsee the advantages of changing the output mostly for HD. What would be the best initial setup.
Admittedly, I’m little blurry eyed with this project, about 5 full days of editing and the last thing I need to worry about is sequence settings (though the first step to consider.)
Appreciating any/all wisdom.
