Achieving that Movie feel
Hi!
Can anyone give me tips on how to create that “movie feel” in terms of color and maybe the texture? i’m using a Canon XHAI HDV camera and Final Cut Pro. I work on cruise ships doing video on excursions and it would be nice to achieve this look to make it look more interesting. Thank you so much! -

Which movie? They all look different.
One of the easiest things to do to help is to shoot in the 24F mode.
There is a program called Magic Bullet Looks that can help stylize the look to be like specific films.

Composition & lighting will do more to achieve a “film look” than anything you can do in post.
Take some classes in lighting. Even a one day workshop for still photography will be a good start- the same basic concepts apply.
And use a tripod!

Thanks for your replies! The thing is I have no time to set up lighting and stuff because I am on a tour with cruise ship guests going around the city of whateve port we are docked into. So it’s more of a on the go shooting so everything will be fixed on the post prod. Not much I can do during the acual shoot. Can you walk me through the steps on shooting on 2fps and how to capture it on FCP? Will it play on regular DVD players once I output it? Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for your reply! What do you suggest woukd look good on my video? I would like it to look like a documenary film and not like “cold, clear” video. My video looks really dull and no texture on it. I once seen some episodes of Lonely planet and I really liked what they did to the “texture and feel” of some footages. Thanks for helping out!

Step 2 – Practice before actual projectIf you are not shooting interesting footage that is well lit/exposed, then a film look with not “save” the video. A film look is too enhance the final video not fix it. Also there is no way to say what will look best since that is up to you, the benefit to using a program like BM Looks it that you can go through all the Looks and find the one that you like best. A good place to start is warming up the footage and adding a slight blur to it. Magic Bullet has trial versions of the software so download it and play with it. Be aware that all this takes processing time.
