    Hi,

    I have 2 problem tapes.

They are shot on varicam at 60fps. They have interviews on them and i’d prefer not to have these play at slow motion. We are PAL land so i need to get this to 25fps

I have access to a HD1200A, with the SDI and HSDI board.
I take each slow tape in twice,

once with the deck set to 25(SD) (for offline) and

once in 59/60 to get a 720p60 signal out of the HDSDI (for full res slow motion converted to ProRes(HQ) 720p25 via kona3 that I play out to HDCAM for reasons of limited access to varicam deck).

What would the best way to get these slowed interviews back to normal. The 25(SD) version from the deck jumps and stutters … its the wrong frequency for the footage and the deck give an error message .. E-94.

I’ve had a look at a plain old speed up by 240% (60/2.4=25) … without frameblending in fcp. looks ok, not perfect. Are there any other options?

Could I take it in as a 720p60 clip and then put that on a 25 timeline? Would it render and play normally?

    Thanks for any help

    Donal

Are you sure they are shot in slow motion, the varicam always records at 60 fps but that doesn’t mean that it is slow motion. But the deck cannot do a standards conversion (NTSC to PAL) You have to capture as NTSC 60, then do the conversion via software or send the tape off to something that does conversion.

Is there sound on the tape? Not sure about the varicam but I know the P2 panasonic cameras that do slow mo do not record audio when using that feature since the audio would be distorted.
