  Here’s a humdigger for ya

  Hello –

  I’ve been killing myself over this issue all day – please please help!!!

  Here’s my issue:

  I’m working with footage filmed with the HPX500 at 24p (or technically 23.98), compression is DVCPRO HD 720p60. All footage was transfered with P2 cards. On the shoot we had an audio guy who recorded sound at 96Khz with a 24-bit floating integer. The HPX500 did NOT record audio – our audio guy set up mics and recorded through pro tools. I brought all my footage into FCP. When I brought in the clips I accepted the sequences settings to match my media (from the P2 cards). I converted all the audio to 48Khz at 24bit.

  Here’s the problem:

  I lay in my audio (just sound effects from the shoot – smash noises) Line everything up perfectly. When I play back the audio is completely off – getting worse towards the end. I’ve tried everything. The closest I’ve came to finding an answer was off this forum: https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1712

  But it still didn’t fix my problem. Any advice??????

  Try this: line your audio up at the front of the clip. Then do a speed effect on your audio (99.90%)

  it’s because your video is running at 23.98, but your audio is running at 24.0 (essentially)

  I tried setting the speed of the audio to both 99.9 and 100.1 – still no luck. I also tried setting my sequence settings to 24 frames instead of 23.98. No go.

  You can actually see in the timeline that the audio is delayed. The marker will pass the part where there are audio wave forms before it plays.

  It has to do with the frame rate. When I change my settings to 29.97 the audio sounds great and is spot on but of course the video looks weird.

  Hummmm… it’s really hard to say. 23.98 and 29.97 are analogues of each other. If sound is syncing at 29.97 and not 23.98, there’s got to be a mismatch between sequence settings and your media. I’m out of ideas!
