    My problem is this:

Whenever I bring video (especially mpeg) after effects processes the video at
8fps out of 29.970, and when i render the video, even without adding effects it also renders at 8 fps so the rendered video is SUPER choppy

I cannot do any editing or add any effects becasue of this problem, very stressful….

    I have 1 ddr2 gig of ram, work on a 7200 320 gig seagate, and have a 6300 1.87Ghz
    core duo, and a GeForce 7300 GS 256mb ddr2 video card…

[Dee-Ski] “Whenever I bring video (especially mpeg) after effects processes the video at 8fps out of 29.970”

Is that the worst case scenario with MPEG or is that with any video? Also, what kind of MPEG?

With .AVI it does 20 fps on average, and I notice it when I play back my rendered video.

With mpeg it does 4fps- 8fps. This happens with the footage I import onto my computer as well as when I convert it so the audio can play back. Both playback as peg2 i believe

I have a Sony DCR-SR100 HARD DISK DRIVE CAMERA

It play back the same, no matter what i try to render it as, i/.e qucktime, avi mpeg etc

I can’t say that I know what the problem is, seems kind of strange. I would recommend running a series of tests, try working with footage from a different source (something you didn’t shoot/capture), try rendering from an AVI to a QuickTime Photo JPEG (uncompressed AVIs run very poorly). Basically, try to figure out where the problem is in the chain, I have a suspicion this isn’t a problem with After Effects.

When you reimport a rendered clip does it show it’s framerate as 8fps in the project window? How are you previewing? The zero key or spacebar?

Yes, the rendered footage also plays at a slow bitrate, normally between 9-14fps. This happens whether I use the space bar, the 0 key or press the mouse cursor on the play button… this is stressing me out a lot haha, because I just want to start editing some footage… any help will be great. I tried reinstalling the program… still gives me problems
