  Getting MPEG video inot FC Studio

  I’m currently using Final Cut for my editing system. For some reason, the mpeg files from my camera are not coming over into Final cut with any audio. They will play fine w/ sound on my quicktime player but go mute when in final cut. I’m going through and turning each individual mpeg into an avi using a program on another computer. this works, but it is very tedious and time consuming. I was wondering if there was a more direct way to convert or modify mpeg files to work in final cut studios with sound.

  Mpeg is not a movie format for editing (except for HDV but the is debatable) and it should be exported to another format, but NOT AVI, depending on what your camera is shooting and what your are editing on you should be using QT as DV or DVCPro50, DVCProHD or if you can handle it ProRes.

  AFAIK, one of the best ways to do this on the Mac is to convert the MPEG files to QT by using the free software MPEG Streamclip – it works great:

  Thanks alot, The AVI has been working for me so far but I will definitely try the QT DV settings. Are you saying that I should open the mpeg in QT then export it using the DV stream setting and one of the DV options you listed above? Is that about right? Thanks again.
