I just shot my first project using a JVC HDV camera. Since normal log and capture doesn’t work for the format I used Apple Pro Res 422. It seems pretty solid but I like to have specific file names for my clips. I am going through the process of renaming all my source files in Capture scratch and then importing them back to my project. My question is when it comes to reconnecting my files if I need to delete them off my hard drive and recapture from the HDV tape again. In the FCP Browser I gave each tape a reel number. If I insert that tape will FCP be able to batch capture my files and reconnect them or will there be problems. It is important I be able to reconnect my files in the future if I have to delete my files. If I can’t I will have to back them up on another Hard Drive.

    Thoughts?

Instead of renaming in the capture scratch folder, simply rename your files in the browser, once you’re done, you can right click on a clip or many clips and then choose Rename > File to Match Clip. Easy.

As far as recapturing, I am not sure. Try the workflow with a test file. Capture it, rename it, take it offline then try and recapture.
