Write on vector images
Hi this is probably a tutorial somewhere, but i cant find it…
Anyhow i have footage of people writing imaginary letters on an imaginary plain infront of the camera.
I have created the letters in illustrator and imported these as .ai’s.
Now i need them to write on in time with the hand in the footage.I am trying to use the paint brush and write on effects but just can’t quite figure it out, frustrating because I am soooo close(well at least I think that I am)
Basicly I am trying to mask the image so that it is written on as letters are when written.
I am playing with the brush channels, ie RGB, RGBA or Alpha and the write on effects paint style, using reveal original image etc, but I am always left with some remnant of the paint brush and not just a masked letterform appearing as the footage dictates it should be revealed.
Am I on the right track or should I be going about this another way? like track mattes?

Hey man,
Stroke or 3dstroke will do the trick but you have to use masks, if you have your paths in Illustrater copy and paste them into the mask channel. Then use stroke to write on the mask .. and blur to create feather. Get Trapcodes 3dstroke for taper and crap loads of other things .. Hope that helps.

you may consider using vector paint, or perhaps just the AFX paint plugin. You can draw directly on the alpha channel of the layer and it adds keyframes to the stroke. Both of these options work better with a wacom. Hope this helps.
