  • Serious Timecode breaks, need help for capture

    Hi,

I work on a project for which I got a bunch of Mini-DV Tapes which I capture through firewire from a Sony DVCam Player/Recorder.
Everything is fine except for one tape that is seriously broken and has timecode dropouts every 2 Seconds.
From working on Avid I know you can work around by capturing the free video signal without the decks timecode but I don’t know where to find that in FCP. I am working with FCP6.03… any hints on how to capture material without the broken timecode from the tape??
Thanks for any replies in advance,

    Karim

In Log and Capture you can set Deck Control to non-controllable device, then you just play the tape and do a capture now. Of course no TC is captured with the footage so recapturing the tape will not work.

One other thing would be to dub the bad tape to a new tape with new TC and then capture that. Adds an hour to the process but if anything happens to your captured clips so that you need to recapture it will save you hours of frustration.

    Log and Capture window…

    Device Control…

Change it to non controllable device. — then use CAPTURE NOW.

Though… you might want to just dub the whole tape to another one and do use the timecode if you need to go back for any reason and recapture.

EDIT: Michael beat me to it!!

Thanks for your replies. I knew it was something about “capture now” but didn’t switch the control to “non-controllable device”. Now it works fine, thanks!
