yesterday and today, barefeats posted testing results of after effects cs3 beta on an 8-core macpro with comparsions to other mac and other versions of ae for those who are interested.

here are links to those pages:

    https://www.barefeats.com/octopro4.html

the second page was originally posted a few weeks ago, but it has been updated with ae results… it has some interesting notes about the ram bus speed and os 10.4’s ram handling limitations.

i emailed rob morgan of barefeats, and asked about the hard drive configuration of his systems, since steve forde of gridiron has mentioned a possible bottleneck with write speeds when rendering becomes so fast.

WOW. Thanks for this… hold it… just wiping the drool from my chin. Right.

I am also interested in the point Steve Forde made about render bottlenecks in very fast machines. Is there any point in an 8-core mac without a RAID? And is the render speed increase reflected in all render times, including ‘design render’ times; ie. not the final render but the moment-to-moment design stuff?

    Cheers
    A

yeah… i was interested in the drive setup used in the barefeats test, after the previous posts by steve forde about the potential bottleneck, just to see if the ae results might get even better if using a 4 drive stata2 raid. rob has posted raid performance tests before, i’m hoping he will set one up and re-test ae cs3.
