  Multiclip drop frames

  I am currently trying to edit a long form project using multiclip, but every time I click between the two angles a drop frames message pops up. I am running 6.0.3 and this is the first multiclip project I’ve done with Sony Ex1 footage. I’m running a power mac g5 dual 2.5 Ghz with 3gb of ram. I’m probably going to end up stacking the clips and editing that way, but I would like to solve this problem now because it will likely occur in the future. Thanks for any help on this matter.

  Multiclips are in essence multiple video streams. A 4 camera multiclip means that you are streaming 4 video layers. To do this you need to make sure that your hard drives are up to the task. While you can play back one stream of DV with footage on a firewire drive (FW400), you might not be able to get 4 streams from the same drive.

  You need a hard drive array capable of multiple streams of video. And the higher the data rate, the faster the drives need to be.

  On the timeline, there is a drop-down box labeled RT. Check to see if the settings are set to Unlimited RT, Playback Video Quality to Dynamic, and Playback Frame Rate to Dynamic. (These can be altered at any time to fit your particular needs, of course) Also, under the User Prefs, uncheck the boxes for Report dropped frames during playback, abort capture on dropped frams, and abort ett/ptv on dropped frames. I usually set my “On timecode break:” to Make new clip.
  This should take care of it, and you can modify the settings of each to fit your RAM and disk needs. Hope this helps

  that can be a little dangerous. (if you forget to put it back)

  I would rather just adjust real time settings to compensate if I had to, but thats just me.
