  • Convert HDV footage into Apple Intermediate Codec using Media Manager

    Hello,

I’m editing a feature Documentary shot in HDV 1080p25 (canon 25f). I digitized the whole footage in native HDV, but now, I have many titles (because all the speaking parts are subtitled) and the project spends a lot of time “preparing for display”. In order to avoid this, someone advised me to recompress the media into Apple Intermediate Codec using the media manager tool.
    My questions are:

    1) Do you think it worth the time and disk space, will it really increase the workflow?

    2) Is the media manager the best way to recompress? Will I loose quality or is it better to redigitize it in Apple Intermediate Codec?

    3) How about the progressive and interlaced issue?

    3) How do I finish the Documentary then? I should have a color correction and a master that will be on TV Broadcast and will be on Festivals.

or maybe I just have to upgrade the computer:

Power PC G5 – 4×2.5 GHz with 2.5 GB RAM.
    FCP 5.1.4.

    Thank you,

    Vanessa Pimentel
