I NEED TO KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO CAPTURE WITH THE SCENES ALREADY CUT IN THE BIN? IM CAPTURING AND IN CAPTURES AS A WHOLE BLOCK AND HAVE TO PASS THE TIME CUTTING IT ON THE TIMELINE.IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME THE SETTING IT WILL BE GREAT.

Im new with MAC and final cut… all my life i have used pc adobe premier pro to edit all my projects.i got tired of it. No im not kidding… Can you help me figure this out so i can edit more easier?

are you asking if FCP will automatically edit your film for you?
really?How on earth do you expect it to make all the creative decisions that go into making an edit? Thats why good editors get well paid!!
There are some packages that will split a file into individual scenes, which they do by looking for big changes of information on between consecutive frames. The one i have seen is called CatDV. And its good too, but it doesn’t edit the material for you.
However, you would be much better off doing Log & Capture ie. watching the rushes and select the takes you need. It might be a ball ache but its the best way to actually know what material you actually have to edit with!

Oh come on man im not asking to edit for me i have more then 11 years editing and there is no way a machine can edit for you…
like i said im new at mac and was just asking cuase in adobe premier pro while its capturing theres a button called scene detect which you put a check mark and it divides the scenes for you. i wanted to know if final cut can do the same!!!

Dude – AVI says it’s Quicktime?
What does that mean?
If you’re capturing from tape (which your initial post lead me to believe) – what format? If DV, then use the Detect Start/Stop menu item and it’ll place markers. Otherwise, there is Scene detection software available I gave you one, someone else posted another.
