Stripping a tape on SONY HDW-2000
Can someone please tell me how to stripe a tape or “black” a tape with timecode using the deck directly instead of assemble edit on fcp? I am using an HD deck : SONY HDW-2000. I want to use the deck directly to start timecode at 00:58:30:00 for broadcast air.

That would be looking it up in the Sony manual. I don’t know that deck but the manual is probably available online. You can feed it black out of FCP, maybe, but your timecode is going to be a preset on the machine.
The other question we usually ask is why you think you need or want to do this? Many decks have no insert function that is addressable from within FCP.

Have you tired the black and code button from the edit to tape window?

well the problem is that my g5 and raid are in repair and I only have this deck. and i need to black this tape TODAY by 3pm. I cannot work with FCP

Alright. Well, first you have to send it a stable black video signal. Then you have to dig in the menus and select preset time code, set it up for 58:20:00 or whatever you need. Also make sure that you are in regen timecode and not freerun. Then simply hit record and play and the tc should start at the preset number.

Take your camera, put the lens cap on, make sure the power-saving system has been disabled by using the AC supply and start recording.

Here’s the secret. (available to anyone who takes the time to read the manual)
This deck has it’s own internal signal generator, no other source needed.
“To turn on the internal test signal generator, hold the F1 (Video In) button in the function menu HOME page for three seconds or more with this menu item set to other than OFF. When the test signal generator is turned on, the display of the VID. IN settings changes to SG. To turn off the test signal generator, press F1(VID. IN) button in function menu HOME page again.”
The manual also shows how to set the timecode to any starting number you want (58:30:00 for example)
