Final Cut Pro Creating massive QT files on Capture
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem:
I’m using the first version of Final Cut HD, capturing analogue footage through an ADVC 110 into a G5 Dual 2ghz processor storing the media on a G-Raid.
The FCP is creating a QT file that is 300gb in size, filling up all the remaining space on the drive. I can’t seem to see any setting which would even allow this to happen on purpose – can anyone tell me what I’ve done wrong?

If you are doing an open ended “Capture Now” instead of logging and capturing, FCP will temporarily make the largest file possible for your capture scratch drive until you stop capture.
It goes back down to the appropriate size after you stop capturing.You can control this behavior by setting a maximum capture size in your preferences. Be aware that it will automatically stop capturing once you reach this size limit, so choose it carefully.

What codec are you capturing your footage into? Is it possible you have it set to capture into Uncompressed 10bit? You’ll be using up about 95GB/hr with that particular codec.

The Compressor is DV-PAL, seems to be recording at 3.6MB/sec – does that sound right?

The capture is crashing the machine – the FCP freezes and then the whole Mac goes down, that sounds like a different fault don’t you think?
