    Hi everyone

when i try and log and capture from dv tape FC says “Capture encounted a problem reading the data on your source tape. this could be due to a problem in the tape”. It is not the tape, it always does it. Can anyone suggest what i might be doing wrong?

    Thank you

Gabrielle, try trashing the FCP preference files then start another log and capture. See if that solves it.

Here’s how to trash your preferences the right way and an explanation as to why you need to do this from time to time:

You can also get a free utility program called FCP Rescue that will do this task for you. You can find that here:

THANKS Don. My FCP is new, bought about 4 weeks ago. Should i still try your suggestion or should it have no corruption since i have only used it a few times.

You won’t hurt anything by trashing the pref. files and it may very well solve your issue. But as you say in your first post, you’ve always had a problem capturing. Have you alsways used the same capture deck and cable? If you’re still having issues after the preference trashing try using or borrowing a different deck/connection combo as a test just to make sure there’s no issues in that regard.

Don’s suggestion is always a good starting place, but there is really no way anyone can help with so little information.

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything’s connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you’re using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QT are you using?

    All the best,

    Tom
