    hi there,

    FCP 5.1 on a macBook

i want to capture 1h HDV 50i – materiel via firewire to my macbook.

works pretty well so far the only serious prob i have
is that FCP captures 12fr only.

    -no in`s / out´s set.
    -more then enough HDD-space available
-all settings on HDV, ready to shoot

    any suggestions?

I LoveHate this camera and have had similar problems. The answer seems to be:

    1. Power off camera
    2. Disconnect Firewire cable from Camera
    3. Power on Camera, select menu settings for output (HDV, SD)
    4. CONNECT Firewire cable to camera, FCP
    5. Fire up FCP with a new project using appropriate settings.

Apparently, it won’t read the setting changes unless the Firewire cable is disconnected.

    i´m sorry, i was a bit inaccurate:

i don´t wanna capture the regular way (tape>FCP>HDD).
i want to capture while the cam is in “Manual”-mode.
    (CAM>FCP>HDD)

and as i said i can open cmd+8 the log and capture window
and it tells me the tape is not rewinded (sure! there is no tape) but i can´t capture what i see.

it just creates 8KB files on my HDD with no content.

besides: iMovie does this without any probs.

    any ideas?

    allright,

    i got the answer:

final cut treats the XH – A1 in “m”-mode like a VTR when you simply put in a tape. then you can capture CAM > HDD and/or record to tape at the same time.

saves material / battery and capture-time, cuz you leave the set with the already captured clip on your computer.
tested with no probs at all on a 2.2GHz macBook, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD.

    hint:
1.) if you capture with no tape the autom. shut-down integrated into the cam will get in your way. you can find a workaround in the hardcover manual – page 81.
2.) don´t forget to bring a long firewire cable.

    magnifique.

    thanks for your patience.
