Why do I need to render my JPEGS?
I have imported a whole lot of Jpegs into my project…. but why is FCP making me render them when I put them into my timeline?
They arent very big files, so shouldnt it be able to work with them in realtime?
Do I need to change some sort of setting?

What’s the average file size?
How much RAM do you?
Stills are RAM intensive. If you drop them one at a time onto your timeline as a test, what you would notice is the first several would not change the render indicator, but as you continue to add additional stills the indictor will turn green, and then later red. That because you’re seeing th effects on RT performance of those pix eating up your available RAM.

What computer and graphics card? How much RAM? How much free space on your system? What else is running? What size are the images in relation to the sequence? Check your still memory cache size.
