Compressor/DVD Studio Pro question
I am compressing a 2 hour 33 min. show from FCP 5 and coming up with 3.31 GB video. When I import it into DVD Studio Pro onto the Track it goes from 3.31 GB to 4.1GB. My 4 menus only take up 99.3MB. What’s happening?
Also – for the last 3 days when I compress, I am only compressing the video and the audio is nowhere to be found. I go to compressor to the 150 min. DVD and make a duplicate copy so I can custom encode both video and audio to 3.1 to get the video small enough for single layer DVD. How have I sinned? I am incredibly frustrated.Adair Simon

From many of your other posts it sounds as though you’ve been having a lot of issues with Compressor lately. When you installed FCS2 was it a clean install or a did you simply upgrade over FCS1? It you simply upgraded, it may be time for a clean install of the OS and FCS2.

Thank you for such a quick reply. Yes, I almost always have compressor issues. Quite frankly, I thought they were due to my lack of tech savvy – and I’m still partly sure they are.
So you are saying that I should reinstall my whole operating System – Tiger 10.4.3 and FCS2. My issue with that – (other than abject fear that my computer will crash) is that my hard drive has NO more space on it.
At this moment, can you think of a work around to help me compress, get this project off my computer (it is due Monday)so I can then do the reinstalls? By the way, when I upgraded to FCS2 I had major issues installing and the Mac people had do send me numerous replacement discs.

You mentioned the audio. Just want to double check that you realize the audio and video are compressed separately in compressor. In dvdsp, after you import both, usually you drag the video to the track and the audio follows, but sometimes I’ve had to drag them separately to the track.
And you say the menus are 99megs. Is that in the finder or dvdsp? Dvdsp of course will have all the programming that goes with them, but that 4.1 number does seem like a jump up.
Sounds like reinstalling is a no go for you right now. Especially if youre not tech savy. You might take your dvdsp project and your video over to someone else with dvdsp and see if you can encode or repeat the issues there. I might be able to help Monday if you need it.

Yes, I realize that the video and audio are separtley compressed and that in dvdsp the audio usually trails up after the video. The wierd thing is that there IS no audio. Now all I am getting is video. I am compressing the same way I did weeks before when it would give me the audio, but no go.
I’ve been thinking about jumping up to FCP6. Would doing so fix my problems?Adair

Hmm. You’re sure the qt you exported from fcp has audio? Also, still confused by your comment about duplicating the 150min preset in dvdsp. You have to also choose an audio preset to export separate audio files. I assume you’re changing the compression too to fit 153 min into a 150 min preset?

Good point. Adair, are you using fcs 1 or 2? You mentioned Fcp 5, and also FCS 2. Fcs2 is fcp6.

Thank you for your help and advice.
I found out that most of my compressor problem stemed from the fact that my hard drive was completely full. I removed about 10 GB and Compressor started to respond.
