Because of money, I am working with Final Cut Express HD. I created a movie in FCE using only still photos with transitions. Photos are placed in variety of sizes and places on the black screen.

I now made a background and intro for the movie in Livetype. However, I can’t get the movie to show the background. I’ve tried to import the background into FCE but it won’t show. I tried importing movie into Livetype, but black area shows. I’ve looked for how to make background transparent, and find nothing. I’ve tried to superimpose into FCE, but livetype won’t show at all.

I’ve looked for 24 hours for a deadline and can’t figure this one out at all. How can I get rid of the black space around my photos and insert the livetype background?

(Tried to render in livetype and come up with error about a clip.) Please HELP.

If you are just putting pictures on the canvas that are smaller than the canvas, the black background is just an alpha channel. Just put your background that you made on video track 1 and make sure everything else is on the tracks above it. If this doesn’t help, I guess I didn’t understand your question.

Generally, the Livetype textures and objects should be rendered to movies directly from LiveType and then imported into your project. I have never used FCE but since LT comes with the package, I have assumed the interoperability was a no-brainer. If your textures have been placed on the background layer, below the border, you must have the background set to render. It’s a littel checkbox on the render panel.

I’ve looked in the online manual, the physical manual, google, yahoo and cannot find this answer.

All my layers are above the line for rendering in LT. What I’m trying to do is illiminate the black in the FCE movie to show the LT background either into FCE or into LT, whichever will work.

This is what I thought would work, but my LT background shows all black in FCE. Maybe that’s the problem. I rendered in FCE, but the LT background remains black. I’ve run into some error messages when trying to render in LT but am trying again. Any other thoughts?

    Okay, nothing unusual here.

You have confused me with this statement, now you are talking about two or three different movies. The project from FCE, the background, and the intro.

    > I‘ve tried to import the background into FCE but it won’t show.

Did you render the background movie out of LiveType or are you trying to simply drag the background (whatever it is you mean by that term) from LT’s library to FCE? You can’t do that. Are you saving this an LT project (.ipr) and importing the project?

    > I tried importing movie into Livetype, but black area shows.

Which of your three movies are you talkkng about now? What do you mean by black areas? Letterbox or pillars or areas of transparency?

    > I’ve looked for how to make background transparent, and find nothing.

You’re probably looking in the wrong places. LT, by default, renders to the Animation codec. If you bring into FCE an .ipr and place it on the timeline, it remains unrendered until you render the entire FCE project.

    > I’ve tried to superimpose into FCE, but livetype won’t show at all.

You seem to be using these terms inappropriately.

I cannot figure out what else to tell you except invest some time in running the tutorial for LT if you have one. Should be in the very beginning of the manual but I’m not at my FCP machine to tell you exactly.
