this may be a basic common knoladge question, but i cant seem to figure it out, tried the manual before you ask, nothing in there on this.

For some reason when i bring new audio tracks into my timeline they delete my destination source (the little number on the left of the timeline you can change to change your destination source a1 a2) then i cant get it back without importinng another audio clip and even then im lucky to get back one, it really makes a mess of things when im trying to import clips so i stay organized. this always happens with audio but rarely with video

    another question about the timeline.

why is it when i break a link of a clip (splitting audio from video) there is no way for me to re-link the two without highlighing them? Or is there? Or say for example i want to link two seperate pieces, like video one with new audio not origionally linked to that clip.

These are huge organizational savers and i cant seem to figure out how to do such things.

My suggestion for your audio problem is to simply load the audio clips into the Viewer before editing them into the Timeline. This is the recommended workflow because the proper patch panels will not be available until a clip is loaded into the Viewer. If you’re dragging and dropping straight from the Browser to the Timeline, you’ll have a tougher time placing the audio right where you want it. Makes sense?

To link any audio and video with Modify > Link, you must select them first.

    Hope that helps you.

wow that modify is a lifesaver.

and as for the timeline option, i just drag the clips in one on top of each other lock the appropriate content, and delete the other, but i couldnt figure out how to link them afterwords.

Im workinng on importing a bunch of hi-8 and vhs footage fomr years back into final to digitize and re-edit all of it.

Very time consuming, besides the fact i am using a dv camera as a bridge, and the hi-8 camera, and vhs deck only have mono outputs. I realize im doing this very cheeply, but its working, and not to shabby actually.
