Is there any way to save pref files in fcp4 so that say if your computer crashes or you have to switch computers you can just pull your pref file off your external drive and paste it into your final cut folder somewhere?

then if i did save my prefs, are they cross platform as in can i bring a fcp4 pref file into fcp5 or 6?

Just Drag the prefs to the external drive to make a copy of them.

No, you don’t want to do this. The apps change so you can probably crash your system by attempting to do this, or at the very least, FCP won’t operate correctly.
