    Hello Cow crew

I have a quick question and i know its probably a simple media manager thing but i just want to do it right the first time and quickly – I tried it my way and things went wrong!

So i have been editing someones reel for the last week in prores because i thought it made more sense to do this but now i realize my macpro could handle the mostly 10 bit uncompressed ntsc quicktimes. So in qt pro i made the 15 quicktimes into ProRes qt’s but i realize that the majority of these clips are 29.97 702×486 uncompressed 10 bit or animation or none.

I have a pretty good edit done and i want to replace the prores clips with the folder i have of the original clips which again are mostly 10 bit uncompressed qt’s – i tried making the clips offline and then replacing with the original which have the same name but are not in prores but i get an error message saying that some of the clips in and outs are changed and such and only some of the clips relink to the full res originals.

How can i best keep the edit i have made which does have some ramps and plenty of cuts but switch to full res versions of the clips as opposed to prores ones its linked to now?

    thank you

    Lisa

I wouldn’t bother… the show won’t look better don’t think… ProRes is visually lossless from the original IMHO… so why bother?

But with media manager, you can select your sequence and choose:

    Make Offline
Set the settings to the 10 bit uncompressed..

Then create a new project file in MM… this should reconnect OK as long as all clips were associated with a Reel name. If not, assign them one…

i am not sure i understand entorely how to execute what you describe – i do notice a loss in quality in a few of the videos and the originals look better on those so i figure why not just use the originals and replace the ProRes clips

can u possibly dumb it down a little bit for me

thanks for replying i really appreciate your help

    Try this:

Select the sequence in the Browser then right click on the icon to open Media Manager.

Select these settings in the Media Manager dialog box that will open.

    Make offline,
Set the sequence settings to 10 bit uncompressed (match your originals)
Then you’ll create a new project file with unconnected media… except for media that has no reel name like audio files you may have used that came from CD’s or titles you’ve created. They’ll still be in the new sequence and project file that this procedure will create.

Connect the media then to the originals…

This will not work right if the video clips don’t have a reel name associated with them, so if they don’t, you need to add a reel name to them in the Browser by importing them and simply adding a reel name in that column of the browser for each clip, Then they should connect just fine. Hopefully you didn’t change the names of the clips… if you have, then you need to sort of conform this new project file clip by clip.

Ok so i followed your advice and i get the same message that i was getting before that is: File Attribute Mismatch – i dont understand what i am doing wrong but the files have the same names – one folder is pro res athe other is full res (mostly 10 bit uncompressed mixed with None, 8 bit and animation as well)

I dont understand how to do this please anyone can you tell me what to do?

    thanks
