    Howdy,

I’m on a Mac OS 10.4.11 Mac Pro with 2 x 2.66 GHz dual-core intel chips. With 5 GB of ram running FCP 6.0.2.

I’m trying to put a 6 1/2 minute animation project together at 1080i. All the shots (about 180 of them) were exported out of after effects with animation lossless compression. Then put together in final cut pro. These clips were never meant to play back at speed, just to get all the info to FCP without any quality loss.

My problem now is exporting something out of final cut pro without getting a final product that doesnt artifact (not blocks, but weird motion trails from one frame to the next). I’ve tried animation compression again–which is huge and still artifacts here and there–as well as mpeg4.

Right now I’m just trying to get this thing out the door ASAP at NTSC (not even going to worry about HD yet). I’ve tried fiddling by setting the mpeg4 compressor to key frames every 24 frames, then 12 frames, then 8 frames, but I’m still getting some ugly “ghost trails” from one frame to another when the action gets really heavy.

Any tips from anyone? Should I be using mpeg2? Compression is not my forte, as you could guess. At this point getting anything halfway decent would be awesome.

thanks a bundle for your help,
    stephen

    I got it!

Export out at apple ProRes 1080 24p. From there I exported to Animation compression 4×3 letterboxed in quicktime pro. Then used compressor to export to mpeg2.
